What Does An Audio Engineer Do?

Audio engineering is not just a skill, it’s a talent. An audio engineer listens closely and balances audio sources to make any type of event sound crisp and clear.

Audio engineers work with recording, mixing and reproducing sounds. A live sound engineer works at live events (like concerts, conferences, conventions/trade shows, political rallies, etc.) to ensure that the sounds at the event are high quality for the audience as well as for any live streaming or recordings that may be done. Audio engineers tend to be artistic, creative, innovative and expressive. Engineering live audio requires strong communication skills and a drive to create only the most successful events.

Our team has some of the most dedicated audio engineers in the area, and we’d like to share more about one of our audio engineers, James Dewit

In April 2019, James traveled across six states to move to Iowa and join our crew. James is originally from Cedar Rapids and is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa (Go Panthers!) He had spent the last four years working for Walt Disney World in Florida as an audio technician. When asked, James recalled some of his favorite shows that he has been a part of, including Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Live, Sugar Ray, Baha Men, Candlelight Processional at Epcot, and Disney on Broadway Concert Series — just to name a few!  As he and his wife, Audrey, considered where they wanted to take their futures, they decided that home in Iowa was where they wanted to be.

James thinks of himself as a musician as well as an audio engineer. He is wicked talented on the guitar and has the voice of an angel with a pop-punk sound. He has spent many years with Nexus Entertainment Arts in Cedar Rapids as a volunteer at 319 Fest and Jackbox Productions. James and his wife are also focused on football, specifically the Jacksonville Jaguars. In July, James and his wife adopted their first dog together, Watney the hound. Watney likes to take naps, so that works out well for James. Fun fact: you can follow the adventures of Watney on Instagram!

Even when work gets challenging, James continues to have a great attitude. James, your hard work does not go unnoticed. Having you on our team makes a huge difference. We couldn’t imagine doing our jobs without you!
