Wired Production Group Sponsors Two Youth Rock Bands
In 2023, Wired Production Group is proud to sponsor TWO youth rock bands with the Eastern Iowa Arts Academy. The Eastern Iowa Arts Academy currently has eight talented and energetic youth rock bands, and Wired is sponsoring both Flashback and Indigo Soul.
Students who participate in the Eastern Iowa Arts Academy rock band program have many opportunities to play gigs in our local community. These gigs allow students in the program to learn how to set up and tear down their gear, work with audio engineers at various venues, and all of the little details that need to be handled while being a gigging musician. They are encouraged to choose (or write!) their own songs, become leaders in their band, and hold each other accountable to practice.
Additionally, each band will have the opportunity to record their music in the recording studio at Eastern Iowa Arts Academy with a sound engineer and music producer. Students are involved from setup to tear down and also assist in running the recording session. You can learn more about the ins and outs of the rock band program on the Eastern Iowa Arts Academy website.
Wired Production Group is sponsoring these bands to assist them with rehearsal fees outside of the EIAA studio, help repair and replace instruments, supply essentials for gigs, and provide bands gear. We look forward to connecting with the student musicians and seeing the rock bands perform in 2023!
Why Support Young Musicians?
It is no secret that music brings joy to people of all ages. Music is a language that everyone speaks. It is critical that we provide access to musical programs for youth in our communities. These programs accelerate brain development, provide an emotional outlet, drive self-discipline, and allow students to gain other strengths through their commitment to music. The NAMM Foundation shares valuable information from recent studies regarding benefits of music on adolescents:
- Schools with music programs have an estimated 90.2% graduation rate and 93.9% attendance rate compared to schools without music education, which average 72.9% graduation and 84.9% attendance (The National Association for Music Education. “Music Makes the Grade.” The NAfME. Accessed February 24, 2015).
- Teens described their music teachers as encouraging, motivating and acting as both role models and friends that can be trusted for listening and giving advice (Presentation to U.S. Congress, 2007, Washington D.C. Invited and arranged by the National Association of Music Merchants/NAMM, on “The Impact of Music on the Lives of Children and Adolescents”).
- Teens use music as their “social glue” and as a bridge for building acceptance and tolerance for people of different ages and cultural backgrounds (Presentation to U.S. Congress, 2007, Washington D.C. Invited and arranged by the National Association of Music Merchants/NAMM, on “The Impact of Music on the Lives of Children and Adolescents”).
- Teens associate playing music with music literacy, listening skills, motor ability, eye-hand coordination and heightened intellectual capabilities (Presentation to U.S. Congress, 2007, Washington D.C. Invited and arranged by the National Association of Music Merchants/NAMM, on “The Impact of Music on the Lives of Children and Adolescents”).
- Teens believe music helps adolescents release or control emotions and helps coping with difficult situations such as peer pressure, substance abuse, pressures of study and family, the dynamics of friendships and social life, and the pain of loss or abuse (Presentation to U.S. Congress, 2007, Washington D.C. Invited and arranged by the National Association of Music Merchants/NAMM, on “The Impact of Music on the Lives of Children and Adolescents”).
Every student deserves access to music education regardless of their socioeconomic background. Programs like the youth rock band program at Eastern Iowa Arts Academy support this belief.
