Wired Production Group Sponsors Excellence in the Arts 2023
The Gazette in Cedar Rapids is producing the inaugural “Excellence in the Arts” event in April 2023. This event recognizes outstanding student achievement in grades 9-12 across Eastern Iowa. Wired Production Group is proud to be the Visual Arts Sponsor for this event.
This year’s “Excellence in the Arts” event will recognize students in three categories: Performing Arts (band, choir, speech, theater, etc.), Visual Art (sculpture, photography, painting, etc.), and Digital Art (digital photography, digital painting, computer graphics, etc.). Any individual can submit nominations for these categories through the form on The Gazette’s website through February 17th, 2023.
Why Support Students in the Arts?
Arts are fundamental to our communities all across the globe – and it starts in the classroom. As reported in a May 2005 Harris Poll, students benefit significantly from arts in their education. There is strong support from Americans for arts education. Some powerful statistics from this poll include:
- 86% of Americans agree that an arts education encourages and assists in the improvement of a child’s attitude toward school
- 83% of Americans believe that arts education helps teach children to communicate effectively with adults and peers
After grade school, the 2016 National Arts Index report explains that there is a steady demand for arts post-high school graduation. Students who are invested in their arts education and pursuing future careers in the arts will impress us most in the future. These students will use art to educate others, encourage higher levels of thinking, break social barriers, and take the lead in the future of our communities.
