Wired Production Group Shines Light on Alzheimer’s Disease
For nearly 10 years, Wired Production Group has been supporting local efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association of Iowa. Our team supports the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association through donations, participation, and advocacy. This includes annual fundraising and awareness projects, including The Longest Day in June and the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in September.
What is Alzheimer’s?
Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder that kills nerve cells and tissues in the brain. It slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, and those with the disease will lose their ability to communicate, recognize loved ones, and be able to care for themselves. It affects more than 47 million people across the world. In the United States alone, there are an estimated six million individuals living with Alzheimer’s as well as over 11 million people living as unpaid caregivers to those affected with the disease. It is projected that by 2050, more than 13 million Americans will be living with Alzheimer’s.
In early 2023, the results of a MIDSS survey reported Alzheimer’s disease is the second most feared disease in America. Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging. However, the greatest known risk factor is increasing age as the majority of people with Alzheimer’s are over the age of 65.
Memory loss disrupts daily life for those with Alzheimer’s Disease, their loved ones, and caregivers. It touches everyone, and you can help in the fight to end this disease. In 2023, Wired Production Group will support the Alzheimer’s Association of Iowa in their annual fundraising day, The Longest Day, on June 21st.
The Longest Day
Each summer, the Alzheimer’s Association recognizes the longest day of the year. This is the day with the most light, also known as the summer solstice. June 21st, 2023 is adopted as “The Longest Day ” to encourage individuals and organizations across the globe to outshine the darkness of Alzheimer’s. Those who recognize the day are encouraged to participate in an activity they are passionate about, create a fundraiser, and start the conversation about Alzheimer’s.
At Wired Production Group, we embrace the light. We light our building in purple to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s.
Walk to End Alzheimer’s
For the last decade, Wired Production Group has supported the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Linn and Johnson counties. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is hosted annually in more than 600 communities across America. It is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, support, and care. Their local resources include free, local education programs, caregiver support groups, and offer a 24/7 Helpline at 800-272-3900.
