The Dubuque County Fair Celebrates 66 Years With Fun and Live Music

In 2019, the Dubuque County Fair celebrated its 66th annual fair with more than 71,000 people attending the fun-filled Eastern Iowa event. The Dubuque County Fair has welcomed fairgoers to their 96-acre property to celebrate good old-fashioned Iowa fun since 1953. Each July, Dubuque hosts six days of agricultural exhibitors, rides and games on the midway, a variety of food vendors and entertainers on various stages throughout the fairgrounds. Thanks to attendees and sponsors (a lot of them), the fair was a huge success again this year.

As the Dubuque County Fair continues to grow every summer — thanks to the leadership of Fair Manager, Kevin Kotz — the Wired Production Group crew was ecstatic to be a part of it. This fair was near and dear to our hearts because our CEO, Ron Rausch, has roots in the Dubuque County area.

While the fair attendees were getting their kicks at fair #66 in Dubuque, our Wired Production Group crew was working hard to make sure that the AV production was perfect for the full fair experience.

The Dubuque County Fair is very active in Dubuque County 4-H and FFA activities year-round. During fair week, the barns have various livestock competitions and auctions. With thousands attending these 4-H and FFA events, it was critical that everyone was able to see what was going on inside the barn. To ensure maximum visibility, our video production team set up a mobile LED video screen outside the barn with a live video feed during each of the events. This allowed attendees to enjoy the various barn events outdoors on the lawn in addition to the seating inside the barn. Thank you to our production specialist engineer, Marcus, for making this possible for the Dubuque County Fair fans!

People could watch livestock events on an LED screen at the Dubuque County Fair.

The fair had a variety of entertainers on their free stage during the week, but the big concerts in the grandstand on Friday and Saturday nights were managed by our technical production team. Our crew brought in an SL320 stage, our full audio production, lighting design, and live video production set up. Friday’s main stage performers included opener Carlton Anderson and headliner Chris Young. The weather could not have been more perfect for the Friday night show! On Saturday, our crew was excited to work with the Gin Blossoms who opened for Dennis DeYoung from STYX.

The Dubuque County Fair Grandstand Stage featured a SL320 stage, lighting design and full audio and video setup.

During the live concerts, our video production crew manned multiple camera feeds that were displayed on the mobile LED screens on each side of the stage. The live feed on the jumbotrons made the view amazing for everyone at the concert. The screens also displayed sponsor logos, videos, photos and fair updates in between performances. This was a double-win for the fair organizers!

Outdoor concert production is something that we absolutely love to do — and we are darn good at it, too. We never get tired of seeing the crowds enjoy their time in front of live entertainment. The community support of this Iowa fair is awesome, and we’d like to congratulate Kevin and the Dubuque County Fair crew on another impressive fair this summer. Our Wired Production Group team is very proud to be a part of this incredible fair and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the Dubuque County Fair Association for many years to come. We’ll see you in 2020!
